What our Guests are Saying?

Selina – Australia – April 2021 to Feb 2022

When I came to Fale Yau in April 2021, I was looking for something very specific, a home away from home, good security and importantly safety for my well-being. I needed a home that I can rest and be taken care off being away from family for sometime. My intention was only to stay for a couple of months but as it turned out, 9 months later and short of a week from 10 months, I was still enjoying the little luxuries that made my stay more enjoyable.

My extended stay was not out of choice it was necessary, the hosts and home environment made it harder for me to leave as I was enjoying being spoilt. I was always around the family pets, Snoopy, Dizzy, Phusky, and Sussex, the always fresh clean beds, the people around me every day, the location being central and importantly the availability of a complete home kitchen where I was able to indulge on my culinary skills.

Like everything in life, all good things come to an end, but happy to say that I have secured a place to start my next chapter of my journey. I am a believer that you meet people for a reason, and my choosing to move to Fale Yau with the timing just before the long covid lockdown, was meant to be. Having lockdown on your own is not highly recommended.

Fale Yau is the epitome of a home stay, home away from home with a 5-star rating– the ambience of a family home, clean fresh sheets every 2 days, central location, pets, the availability of a complete kitchen that I indulged my culinary skills and having people around 24/7.The home reflects the owners’ passion, their “nothing is too much” service provides guests with a true feeling of a warm family home, which makes you never want to leave, the little treats, the out of their way efforts to ensure cater for your needs and much more, knowing what you like to eat, your favourite drink, these are very important, they made it personal. This of course attracts a specific type of clientele.

The location of this lovely home is key to new comers to Fiji and it is only through word of mouth that you come to know about this haven in the middle of Suva. I feel very sad, that I have moved on but I will treasure the beautiful memories, the family environment, the laughter and jokes and the pets and also the friendship. Thank you, Adi and Harry, for the warm welcome you afforded me, I will miss FOMO aka Sussex who became my room buddy whenever she feels like to come in, a cat with a great attitude and personality.

In my humble opinion, I do not think that there is a home in Suva that provides a complete concierge service as what Fale Yau does. I am sorry if Sussex put on weight as I overfed her you can blame me now. As for me Harry has adopted me as his sister because of my long tenure so the standard is set, to be part of the Fale Yau family there is a pre requisite. With a heavy heart, it is sad to leave, but keep up the personal concierge service at Fale Yau – that is your Gold Mine.

The Downey Family – Jan 2022 – Australia

We found Suva’s best kept secret! – Fale Yau Homestay.

My husband, our 12 year old daughter and I, have just had a delightful and thoroughly enjoyable stay at this beautiful home. Our rooms (and indeed the entire home) were well appointed and presented with a high standard of cleanliness. Fale Yau is handy to everything you’ll need in Suva and is private and peaceful at the same time.

It’s hard to find better hosts than Adi & Harry. They produced ‘breakfast spectacular’ every morning, featuring the freshest tropical fruit (just what we came to Fiji for), tropical fruit smoothies & juices and artisan bread. We even trialled Harry’s home-made kumquat jam. One evening, we sampled one of Harry’s famous suppers.

Our hosts were also generous with their knowledge of eateries, history and culture – giving us new and wonderful insights into Life in Fiji.

Fale Yau’s four pets – Dizzy, Snoopy, Sussex and Pusky did not fail to charm and are sorely missed by our daughter in particular.

There’s nothing feigned about Fale Yau. We left enriched in many ways. My husband will miss his ‘talanoa’ sessions with Harry.

If we were to describe it in a sentence it would be – Fale Yau is a happy merging of discerning tropical style, Colonial flair and comfort; an unforgettable experience.

We are thrilled to have found Suva’s best kept secret.

We highly recommend Fale Yau Homestay.

Rich Walrath – Phillipines – Dec 2021

I stayed at Fale Yau after getting out of quarantine on my arrival in November. Amazing place to stay, wonderful hosts, friendly pets, very comfortable stay. It was wonderful, getting off work, going to the Fale Yau, and then spending time in the pool, decompressing. Meals were wonderful, prepared with care and served enfamilia. I highly recommend Fale Yau for either a shorter stay or a long stay! Wonderful place to be! Vinaka and Thank-you for the hospitality!

Samsul – Malaysia – Oct 2021 Onwards he has not left yet

Fale Yau went way beyond to make my month long stay comfortable. Thank you for the memories.

Sam left in November, but when his contract was extended he came back to Fale Yau and is still here. Editors Note.

Tawfiq – Italy – Oct 2021

This was a wonderful accommodation and I would recommend it highly, without any hesitation. First, if you are concerned that some Airbnb accomodations arent exactly as shown in the photos: this one is even better than depicted. The room I took is quite spacious (I believe the two other rooms on rent are too). It has a walk in cupboard and 2-sink bathroom, bathtub & shower, with good water pressure. There is regular cleaning of the room (as well as of the house, where shoes are left outside), so this accommodation is extremely clean. Laundry, on demand, is free of extra charges (there is a small charge for ironing). Air conditioning and fans are both available in the bedrooms. However the location- on a hill, not far from the coast- often enjoys a morning or afternoon breeze. So you can enjoy the fresh air; the ample windows also offer lots of natural light.

The common spaces (living room, patio, garden, swimming pool, kitchen) are spacious and welcoming. The shaded patio overlooking flowers in the garden and water in the pool is a an accessible and favourite spot to eat, work or chat. The hosts permit guests to visit so I’ve even had some relaxed working meetings in the patio, which is a great option as it saves time and money! The hosts have even served coffee and tea!

Speaking of hosts, Harry and Litia genuinely care that their guests have a good experience in their home. Not only are they extremely helpful if you ask for anything, they also check from time to time, asking if anything is missing; or anything more is needed. Because Harry and Litia live upstairs, they attend to guests regularly; and they make yummy meals regularly, and invite their guests to join with a nominal share of the costs. Aside from breakfast (fresh tropical fruits, yoghurts, cereals, spreads, jams, etc.) coffee, cappuccino, smoothies, and tea are on offer from time to time- and I had access to the kitchen to make my own whenever I wished, or to cook. (Indeed all guests took one shot at making their signature dish or dessert, so there was nice inter-cultural culinary exchange!) Harry and Litia are also happy to help with shopping if you provide a list; or may offer to give you a ride to supermarkets or town. I felt quite pampered with Harry and Litia available to either help or advise on all my needs!

Because this is more of a homestay, the 2 other guests are booked for a reasonable period- so there is a nice rapport (rather than a feeling of rotating guests with quick turnover). There are four pets in the house, they are all relaxed and quiet: affectionate but not intrusive.

The house is aesthetically furnished. The pool is one of my favorite parts of this accommodation. It’s quite clean and a very convenient and refreshing option for relaxation or for exercise. The kitchen is also spacious and well equipped. There are three eating areas, the patio, kitchen or the dining area adjacent to living room. We invariably ate in the shaded patio surrounded by green.

The location is also ideal for Government and UN: it’s a short stroll from the Ministry of Economy and UN and not far from city center, and central market and bus station. Larger shopping areas (supermarkets, pharmacies, other shops) are probably about one to two kms away in each direction.

This was a great place to stay; and I felt at home with Harry and Litia and their guests and four pets. Indeed this is their home and they want it to continue to feel as such, so they treat their guests as friends. I was privileged to have the opportunity to stay here and am certain that no one who chooses to stay at this lovely home would regret doing so.

Olana & Tawakece – Fiji – Sept 2021

It is a hidden paradise in the busy and noisy Suva city. My best experience in Suva so far, peaceful environment and lovely host.

Booking at Fale Yau instead of a hotel was the best decision we made.

Harry and Adi Litia were such gracious hosts that accepted our booking at late notice and were swift in the preparations of our room. They were very diligent in addressing the safety precautions for Covid – we took Covid tests and had to both be fully vaccinated, so throughout our stay, we felt very safe.

The pool room is very spacious, clean and extremely comfortable. It has large windows that open up to the pool/garden area and at times serves as a “kitty door” for our mini hosts 🐈 who came in to check on us from time to time in return for pets (best part!). I had been working from home for a couple months due to Covid and had no trouble continuing work at Fale Yau on some days. There are tables and chairs all around the property including in the room and outside by the pool. The pool area was my favorite spot to work, I had my own little furry supervisors, who quickly became the stars for some of my zoom calls. There is a good wifi connection all throughout the property so when you’re tired of the table and chair in the rooms, you could take literally sit anywhere around the house and work. Although Fale Yau is located so close to Suva, it is surprisingly quiet so you wouldn’t have to worry about any noise.

Dinner is provided at Fale Yau on most nights – a great option for guests if they want. After a long day, a home cooked meal complimented by wine and good conversation was exceptional.

I highly recommend Fale Yau. Whether you’re visiting Suva for business or looking for a little staycation. We are so grateful to Harry, Adi Litia, Sussex, Pusky, Dizzy and Snoopy (hope I got the names right) for sharing their wonderful home with us. Our only regret is that we should’ve stayed longer.

Patrick & Christina – Australia – Feb to April 2021

Fale Yau is a little oasis in the city. Harry and Litia made us very welcome and were very helpful with advice on Suva as well as great company in the evenings with a lovely cooked meal by Harry. Their dogs and cats were a delight and just added to the warmth of their hospitality. We thoroughly recommend a stay at Fale Yau.

Mark – New Zealand – Feb 2021

Suva has never been our first choice for weekend getaways from the West, and on previous visits has disappointed. Until we discovered Fale Yau. Now we have a central location to stay, walking distance to nearby bars and restaurants, and great host hospitality. Fale Yau is an oasis in the city, close to Albert Park, and all the inner city has to offer. Lovely historic colonial villa with gardens and pool, but contemporary accommodation. Local eateries and bars include TJs, very popular with locals and great live music the night we dined, Paradiso for classic Italian, China Club for yum cha brunch (dragons prancing for Chinese New Year the day we visited), and even the Suva bowls club. Our hosts were very accommodating and knowledgeable about local Suva living and wider Fiji history and culture. Can’t wait to return. Mark & Jo

Lanola – Tonga & Samoa – Jan 2021

Fale Yau Homestay is so beautiful and tranquil, it was difficult not to feel right at home. Nestled right in the heart of Suva and just a minute’s stroll down to Albert Park or the museum. Large, spacious, and impeccably furnished rooms (including bathrooms fully stocked with Pure Fiji products, and swimming towels), and full access to the living areas, kitchen, pool, terrace, and garden. Free WIFI. Breakfast is included and the kitchen is always fully stocked with everything to help one’s self to a sandwich or salad. We enjoyed sharing home-cooked meals for dinner. Cool water and juice available all day, which was so welcomed in this hot weather. The children spent every day in the pool and enjoyed the household pets, including daily walks with Snoopy and Dizzy. Vinaka vakalevu Adi Litia and Harry for having us share in your beautiful home, and for patiently answering our children’s one thousand questions! 😊 Highly recommended for business and leisure travelers alike. So worth it compared to the confines of a hotel room!

Heike – Germany – December 2020

A wonderful home away from home. After a six week stay it was hard to leave… The house and its big terrace exude serenity, the room was airy, comfortable, nicely decorated, very clean, and had a large bathroom with Pure Fiji toileteries and a walk in closet. The pool is very convenient, just a few steps from the rooms. The location is excellent, close to the centre of Suva in a leafy part of town, a leisurely 10 min walk to the UN. It was also a good office away from the office when a cyclone was approaching, and very safe. The hosts make one feel very welcome, and delicious homecooked meals were often accompanied by interesting conversations about Fiji and the Pacific, or enjoyed in complete privacy, as needed. It felt like being part of the family. The dogs were very friendly and the cats surprisingly nice 🙂 Highly recommended!

Mitimiti – Fiji – October 2020

Highly recommended for those looking for permanent accommodation. Fale Yau is perfect for you to use as your base while you’re looking. The Hosts are very welcoming and offer a more personalised touch making you feel right at home. Perfect location too, what more could you ask for?

Virginia Rose – Tonga – June 2020

My family and I had a wonderful experience at Fale Yau Homestay. The Dugdales are the perfect hosts. Our children miss waking up to their daily trips, with Mr. Dugdale, to buy hot bread. It is the ideal place for privacy if you need to rest, or even entertaining if you enjoy small family gatherings. The Dugdales went over and beyond what is expected to ensure that we felt at home. The rooms are exquisitely clean and serviced daily. Fale Yau Homestay is our home away from home and we will most definitely be staying here again!

Jinni – China – Feb 2020

Harry and Latia’s house is a real hidden gem in Suva. I came to Suva for work and stayed with them for a couple of nights. The location is very convenient, walking distance to city centre, shopping malls, supermarkets and the seaside. It’s a quiet airy space, perfect for me to do my work while enjoy the garden, the pool and the company of some cute sleepy animals. Very glad I chose to stay here instead of the two big hotels (GPH and Holiday Inn) nearby. Fale Yau has much bigger rooms (master bedroom has a walk-in closet) with stylish deco with lots of thoughtful details, some of the rugs are a joy to walk on! The house has very relaxing vibes with books to read, a piano to play on…or just Netflix and chill! The hosts have such a wealth of knowledge about Fiji, they will give you lots of tips for Suva you won’t get from staying in a hotel. If you are worried about sharing space while trying to work like I did, don’t be. The hosts are real pros, and there is so much space for you to do your work, do some yoga, go for a swim and relax…that is if the doggies and kitties don’t distract you for some petting. Food is also amazing. Breakfast is included with a lot of flexibility on timing, Harry is a brilliant cook and the hosts would let you choose to have dinner with them with a small fee which is really convenient if you are working during the day and want to eat some home cooked healthy food. Tip: If you are lucky, you might also get invited to some cool parties!

Gina – Fiji & China – Feb 2020

I have stayed at Fale Yau three times. My first stay was in 2019 with my husband and twice on my own this year. There are over 200 AirBnB homes available in Suva, but this is a top of the line home for beauty, location, cleanliness, hospitality, and fast internet connection. We will always return here. My husband and I have travelled the world extensively, so we value a good location. It’s within walking distance of the Fiji museum as well as the city centre and coastline. The home is filled with beauty and the hosts are genuinely warm. Their stunning home reflects the beauty of their personalities both inside and outside. I particularly love the hard wood floors in this home as well as the five-star linen, and Pure Fiji products generously supplied in the bathroom. I discovered Pure Fiji charcoal soap and the coconut shampoo.  What a treat!  We also loved the salads with fresh water cress at meal times. If there was such a thing as reincarnating as animals, I’d like to be reincarnated as a pet and live my life out at Fale Yau. We simply love this beautiful home, the pets, and the hosts which all combine to offer a sterling stay.

Pierre – Australia – Jan 2020

Most definitely home away from home. At the end of a hot sticky Suva day, there’s nothing better than to relax in the pool or on the veranda with a G&T – that’s after being exuberantly welcomed home by Snoopy and Dizzy. The spacious rooms, kitchen access and healthy breakfast beat any hotel accommodation. Litia and Harry (together with Mereoni the housekeeper) are the perfect hosts with just the right amount of attention and personal space provided. Perfectly located just up the road from Abert Park, I was able to have a regular run along the sea wall or nip over to the nearby gym. By the time I left, I felt like one of the family – and it was more of a “see you again soon” than a “goodbye”.

Alexi and Sam – USA – Feb 2020

We had a lovely stay with Harry and Litia! Their place is super clean, there is a POOL, and it is very close to the museum and Grand Pacific Hotel. We enjoyed chatting with them and learning about Fiji.

Patric – China – Jan 2020

HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Harry & Litia’s place is located on the top of a serene hill. Next to the UK’s Embassy in Fiji. Highest standard I can imagine of an airbnb: friendly Hosts, hotel level amenities and staying, within a local stylish house, luxury restaurant level breakfast. Local tips and talks about geopolitics and macroeconomics are very insightful. I graduated from Columbia (a math major), it has been years for me that makes me feel necessary to go check dictionary when talking in English, lmao. 大佬。。。瑞斯拜。。

Jan – Germany – Nov 2019

I don’t know where to start. Everything was excellent starting from their hospitality, breakfast, friendliness etc. If you want to stay in Suva and get the best out of it and even get to see something what is not the most touristic, I can only recommend their home. Had defiantly an unforgettable time – only in a good way.
